First and foremost, make sure you have the proper adaptor for the outlets if you’re an American who is heading to Europe. The plugs are different and you’ll need that piece to get your electronics to work. Take a photocopy of your passport- the page with your photo and all your information, and keep it hidden in your suitcase. This way in case you lose it and can’t get to an embassy, there’s still proof you had a passport.
Pack an extension cord. Whether you are staying in a hostel or in a hotel, plugs aren’t always where you need them to be. A 3-6ft cord can be found at target, walmart, or the dollar store for a reasonable price.
Pack underwear for total amount of days you’re going to be gone PLUS three more days. (You just, never know.)
Tums or Pepto-bismol is always handy to have a few tablets of in case you eat something that might irritate your stomach.
Get Euros over in Europe, it’s a bit cheaper. Also make sure you call your bank/credit union/credit card company and tell them you are traveling so they don’t freeze your account while you’re gone.
Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
